4th DeafNation World Expo | Las Vegas, 2022


Last August 1-4, 2022, Joel Barish organized the 4th DeafNation World Expo & Conference at the Bally's Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event drew approximately 15,000 Deaf individuals from around the globe, including Deaf celebs such as Daniel Durant, Renca Dunn. Troy Kotsur, as well as Wawa joined the expo. There were 14 sponsors and then 3 partners. The sponsors included OmniBridge, Deaf Bible Society, Global VRS, ZVRS, Purple, Heart Cruises, T-Mobile Accessibility, Tive, CSD, Sorenson, SComms, Convo, Nagish, and Ava.. National Black Advocates, RID, and CEASD were the collaborators. There were at the same time roughly 100 booths and 45 shows, including various Deaf businesses which sold tees, arts, and a lot more. There was also a Kick-Off Party with Wawa 10th Anniversary at Chateau Rooftop.


One participant said she was stunned by how many people joined the event. Another deaf participant said it was his 2nd time to attend the DeafNation Expo and that he saw different forms of art that portrayed the Deaf community. He too was thrilled to come across celebs and also take photos with them. According to him, hearing attendees were exposed to various Deaf businesses and also Deaf accessibility.
